PITCH BLACK FORECAST: Debut Album Title Announced

PITCH BLACK FORECAST (formerly ABSENTEE), the new project featuring vocalist Jason "J" Popson (MUSHROOMHEAD, IN COLD BLOOD, Fractured Transmitter Records), drummer Gene Hoglan (STRAPPING YOUNG LAD, DEATH, DARK ANGEL, TESTAMENT), guitarist Robert Reinard (NDE) and bassist Craig Martini, has set "Absentee" as the title of its debut album, due on May 6 via Fractured Transmitter. The CD was mixed with Bill Korecky at Mars Recording Studio and will feature artwork by Derek Hess and Stephen Kasner. The album also features a guest appearance by Human Furnace from RINGWORM.

Check out some demo mixes at this location.

PITCH BLACK FORECAST (under the ABSENTEE moniker) previously recorded a cover of the MELVINS track "Revolve" for the MELVINS tribute album "We Reach: The Music of the Melvins", which came out in August 2005 via Fractured Transmitter Records.

Jason Popson left MUSHROOMHEAD in late 2004 and has since been replaced by Waylon Reavis.

ZIMMERS HOLE: New Album Details Revealed

ZIMMERS HOLE, the Vancouver-based project featuring guitarist Jed Simon and bassist Byron Stroud of STRAPPING YOUNG LAD alongside legendary drummer Gene HoglanSTRAPPING YOUNG LAD, TESTAMENT, DEATH, DARK ANGEL), has set "When You Were Shouting At The Devil...We Were In League With Satan" as the title of its new album, due on March 11 via Century Media Records. According to the band, "this album is a metallic beast. With it, we honor all that is metal, with love in our hearts, and horns in the air... and a few spilled drinks!??"

"When You Were Shouting At The Devil...We Were In League With Satan" track listing:

01. When You Were Shouting At The Devil...We Were In League With Satan
02. We Rule The Fucking Land
03. The Flight Of The Night Bat
04. 1312
05. Devil's Mouth
06. The Vowel Song
07. Fista Corps
08. Anonymous Esophagus
09. Alright
10. Hair Doesn't Grow On Steel
11. What's My Name... Evil!

Born in 1991, ZIMMERS HOLE has been Byron and Jed's significant other band when not busy with STRAPPING YOUNG LAD or FEAR FACTORY. In the beginning, it was always just a way of spending the weekend drinking far too much and writing absurd songs. As time went on, the group "matured" somewhat, although maturity is highly overrated as far as these guys go, but two remarkable albums ("Bound By Fire" and "Legion of Flames"), a series of successful tours and a string of absolutely unforgettable shows soon followed, putting the mighty ZIMMERS HOLE on the lips of many.

DUFF MCKAGAN On SCOTT WEILAND's SUNDANCE No-Show and STP Reformation Rumors

UK's Classic Rock magazine has tracked down VELVET REVOLVER/ex-GUNS N' ROSESDuff McKagan and quizzed him about VR singer Scott Weiland's absence from the group's performance at the Sundance Film Festival and the rumors of a reunion of Weiland's previous band, STONE TEMPLE PILOTS.

On the Sundance Film Festival:

"I sang 'It's So Easy' and 'I Wanna Be Your Dog' and then we were panicking a bit over what to play so [VR drummer] Matt [Sorum] got up and sang 'Patience', Matt's a great singer, he really is. Why wasn't Scott there? Scott missed his plane. Yeah, let's say that, Scott

On STONE TEMPLE PILOTS reforming:

"That’s the rumor that I've heard too. Good for him. You can't plan ahead in this thing and if you do, you're going to be disappointed. Don't get me wrong, I love playing live and we love this band, but I don't have expectations any more. This is a great band and I'm proud to be a part of it, but it doesn't define me anymore."

Although there has been no official confirmation from anyone involved, Weiland told the Miami Herald over the weekend to be on the lookout for a STONE TEMPLE PILOTSWeiland told The Pulse of Radio a while back that he wouldn't rule out getting back together. "I think that there is always that distinct possibility," he said. "I have to say it would never come in the way of VELVET REVOLVER, but I don't think that the story has been completely told. I'm unhappy with the ending of the story."

Weiland made his comments at an all-star gala event benefiting the AROD Family Foundation, on Saturday (January 19) at the Ritz Carlton hotel in South Beach, Florida.

MINISTRY To Release 'Cover Up' In April

"We don't just bitch about Bush and global oligarchies. We're still a rock band and 'Cover Up' is THE MINISTRY party album," said MINISTRY's Al Jourgensen about "Cover Up", recorded by MINISTRY & CO-CONSPIRATORS and set for an April Fools Day (April 1) release.

"Cover Up" simply is one of the hottest, nastiest rock'n'roll albums ever recorded and sees Jourgensen and CO-CONSPIRATORS paying tribute to some of the most memorable PAR-TEE rock songs, mostly from the 8-track era, and to those artists who first laid them down — DEEP PURPLE, T.REX, ZZ TOP, THE DOORS, MOUNTAIN, BOB DYLAN, THE ROLLING STONES and more.

Playing on the "Cover Up" title, Jourgensen has injected himself into various conspiracy theory photographs throughout the release's artwork.

In addition to fellow MINISTRY guitarist Sin Quirin (REVOLTING COCKS), JourgensenCO-CONSPIRATORS for "Cover Up"FEAR FACTORYBurton C. Bell (also of ASCENSION OF THE WATCHERS) sings on THE ROLLING STONES' "Under My Thumb", REVOLTING COCKS' Josh BradfordGOLDEN EARRING's "Radar Love", and PRONG vocalist Thomas Victor lends his pipes to DEEP PURPLE's "Space Truckin'" and RAN JAM's "Black Betty", which also features the Hell Paso Mosh Choir. Additional CO-CONSPIRATORSPaul Raven (MINISTRY, KILLING JOKE), Tony Campos and Wayne Static (STATIC-X), Edu Mussi (ECHOES AND SHADOWS) and Plastilina Mosh.

"Cover Up" will also include MINISTRY's cover of THE DOORS' "Roadhouse Blues" (the version can also be found on MINISTRY's September 2007 release, "The Last Sucker"), and DEEP PURPLE's "Space Truckin'" all tracks culminating in Jourgensen's personal punk rock rendition of LOUIS ARMSTRONG's "Wonderful World".

"'Under My Thumb', like THE DOORS cover 'Roadhouse Blues', was about my not understanding the dichotomies involved," says Jourgensen. "If you listen to the lyrics to 'Under My Thumb', it's the most misogynistic song ever made. I never understood that dichotomy so I always wanted to tackle it. Same with 'Roadhouse' — it's a blues-based song, yet the lyrics are about driving your car into a wall at full speed, drunk, and not giving a f**k. It's so much an anarchist anthem, it should've been a SEX PISTOLS song. So, I wanted to approach both tracks with the spirit of the original lyrical intent."

The April Fools Day release of "Cover Up" coincides with the launch of MINISTRY's final world tour — C U LaTouR — which kicks off March 25 in Spokane, WA. The 36-plus market limited engagement C U LaTouR features special guests MESHUGGAH and opening act HEMLOCK, ending the North American leg mid-May with multiple-nights in Jourgensen's hometown of Chicago. MINISTRY then heads off to play the principal European festivals as well as choice club dates, kicking off in London at the end of May, stretching through to July to end the tour in Dublin, Ireland.

Since announcing the C U LaTouR in late October, additional shows in Spokane, Calgary, Vancouver, Tulsa and Chicago have been added to the routing, with more dates to be announced in the coming weeks.

VINNIE PAUL Wants To Celebrate DIMEBAG's Life By Releasing New Product

Charlie Steffens of KNAC.com recently conducted an interview with drummer Vinnie Paul Abbott (HELLYEAH, ex-PANTERA, DAMAGEPLAN). An excerpt from the chat follows:

KNAC.COM: Is there a lot of music you and your brother [late PANTERA/DAMAGEPLAN "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott] made that's still in the vault?

Vinnie Paul: He was always recording, nonstop. He has the ultimate archive of just fun songs. If something went wrong that day, you know, when I would go to Taco Bell and get screwed, he would write a song about it and just fuckin' lay it down. I don't think a lot of people had the opportunity to see that side or hear that side, so maybe someday that will come out. As far as PANTERA went, we always believed in “all killer and no filler.” When we went to make a record, we made the 10 or 11 or 12 songs that we thought were perfect for the record, and that was basically it. There is a whole selection of DAMAGEPLAN stuff that we were doing. We were really excited about the second record and really felt like we turned the corner and got the fans to pay attention to what we were doing, instead of constantly clamoring for PANTERA at the time. So, that shit should come out someday, definitely. But the next thing is going to be "DimeVision II". It always warms my heart just to see him on video. I feel like I can almost reach out and touch him. He was the ultimate entertainer. He loved entertaining people, man. That was his gift. He loved it. It didn't matter if it was with his guitar or fuckin' pouring shots. Whatever it was, he just wanted to put a smile on people's face.

KNAC.COM: Like skateboarding through a hotel kitchen…

Vinnie Paul: It put a smile on his face. He was the biggest kid I ever knew in my life. I'm the same way, too. Neither one of us wanted to grow up, neither one of us ever wanted to get married, have kids, any of that. It was all about good times. My Dad and I are working on a photo book, which will come out sometime next year. It's a really, really great tribute to him and a good way for people to see him from younger days. I want to sign a couple bands to my label. I got five or six thousand demo tapes in my office, waiting on me. I haven't heard anything special enough just yet, and I want to sign something that really sticks out like a sore thumb, something that's really different and something that could be exciting and create a new wave in music, so to speak. So, I'm definitely going to spend some time on that next year and I've been working on putting a Clubhouse 2 together and putting it in Las Vegas. I don't know how that's going to go, but I'm working on it. There's lots of city council shit you gotta get through to go to Vegas. I don't know if I'm going to be able to pull it off, but I'm working on it. Those are my future plans when HELLYEAH takes a little hiatus, and of course I'll be dying to get back to doing this again, because I love playing music and traveling and everything that's part of it.

KNAC.COM: It's been three years since the tragedy, and aside from a short period where you were keeping it kind of low-key and healing, you're out there really hitting it really hard now.

Vinnie Paul: The biggest tribute you can do is to carry the torch as high as you can and never let it down. I spent eight months so miserable — I don't even want to tell people how miserable it was. I got a really cool letter from Dave Grohl (FOO FIGHTERS, ex-NIRVANA) that said, "I've been through something similar with Kurt [Cobain], and I thought I'd never be part of music again. But music is what healed me." Just those words "music will heal you," that's when I decided, "I need to quit being useless and sad and destroyed, and pick up the pieces and go." From that point on I was able to put it behind me and focus, and just move forward, man. Once I started on the label and started learning a different side of the business, it really helped me. There's not a day that goes by where I don't think about him — I miss him more than anything in this world, but I know that if I was sitting at home and I was fuckin' drunk and on pills, he wouldn't want that. He'd kick my fuckin' ass. So, I think he's proud of me. I know he's proud of me and I know he's proud of all the people who are part of all the things that I'm part of. The support, the love the fans have given us…It something that's never happened, man. It's never happened. There's just no way to explain it. It's one of those things you could say "why" for the rest of your life. Hopefully, I am an inspiration to people. A lot of people lose people and they never regain their heart and are never able to carry on. It is a horrific fuckin' thing to go through, and I get strength from knowing that he wouldn't want me wasting away…period. So, I carry the torch. I go as hard as I can, just like I always did. And, of course, anything I can do to preserve and carry on his legacy and what he was all about, I do. I don't put "DimeVision" out and books to make money. I don't need that shit. I do it to celebrate his life and to help people who are fuckin' fans to have more. Since he's not able to give it to them and I can, that's what I'm going to do.

JANE'S ADDICTION Raids Vaults For Box Set, DVD

Greg Prato of Billboard.comreports: Although it appears most of JANE'S ADDICTION's studio outtakes/rarities have been accounted for and issued, classic live recordings are another story. Now, JANE'S drummer Stephen Perkins is looking into assembling a box set that will focus on memorable and previously unheard live performances from the group.

"We're working on it," Perkins tells Billboard.com. "As far as the packaging and the content, it's going to be loaded. We're hoping to step it up into kind of a more 'collector's item' sort of situation. As far as the content, I've got a whole six or seven boxes full of stuff. We're going through it with Warner Bros., and seeing what's appropriate — what's usable as far as, 'How far do we want to go with lo-fi?' In a perfect world, I would hope to see it out by the summer, but I don't think that's possible. Maybe fall."

Original BIOHAZARD Lineup To Reunite For 20th Anniversary Tour

The original lineup of the highly influential New York-based group BIOHAZARD, whose intense fusion of the aggression of hardcore, punk and thrash metal with the socio-critical commentary and authenticity of hip-hop earned the band extensive international acclaim will reunite for a series of performances in the summer of 2008 to commemorate the band's 20th anniversary. Bassist/vocalist Evan Seinfeld, guitarist/vocalist Billy Graziadei, drummer Danny Schuler and guitarist Bobby HambelHambel left the group at the end of the touring cycle for BIOHAZARD's third album and major-label debut, "State Of The World Address".

Like its predecessor, the landmark "Urban Discipline" (1992), "State Of The World Address" sold more than 1 million copies worldwide and capped the band's evolution from a Brooklyn local favorite into an international success. In recent years, Schuler kept busy by playing drums for the band Bloodclot and occasionally mixing music for other artists, frequently in collaboration with Graziadei. In addition to his success with his new band SUICIDE CITYGraziadei also stays active producing and recording bands in his studio; Underground Sound Studios. Seinfeld, meanwhile, remained in the public eye via high-profile appearances on HBO (five seasons on the critically acclaimed prison drama "Oz") and VH1 ("SuperGroup"), as well as a column in Stuff magazine. Additionally, he shot photos for such publications as Playboy, Penthouse and FHM and voiced characters in the video games Manhunt, The Warriors and the forthcoming Grand Theft Auto IV, and as CEO of Teravision, he currently manages the career of his wife, leading adult film star Tera Patrick, whom he has directed and performed with under the name Spyder Jonez. He also recently launched a new band, THE SPYDERZ.

Seinfeld admits that none of these extracurricular activities would have been possible without the success of BIOHAZARD, and looks forward to returning to his roots. "BIOHAZARD was the single most important chapter in our lives," he says. "Our music brought us together and helped us rise up out of the streets of Brooklyn. Our journey has been an amazing one, and for me, it's all about my brothers Billy, Bobby and Danny, and of course the fans, whose undying support has never given up on the hopes of a reunion of the original band. I'm proud to announce that the four of us have decided to bring our special brand of hardcore tribal ceremony better known as a BIOHAZARD live show to select venues across the globe. Here comes the pain, and see you in the pit, motherfuckers!" Adds Hambel, "We owe it to ourselves and to everyone who wants to see the original band reunite. We've lost a lot of great friends and musicians over the years, but we're still here — and it's time to set the record straight!"

TESTAMENT: New Video Interview With ALEX SKOLNICK Available

A five-minute interview with TESTAMENT guitarist Alex Skolnick conducted during this year's NAMM show (National Association of Music Merchants), which took place January 17-20 at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California, can be viewed below.

TESTAMENT's new album, "The Formation of Damnation", is scheduled for release in North America on April 29 via Nuclear Blast Records.

The band recorded the effort in part with producer Andy Sneap (MACHINE HEAD, EXODUS, ARCH ENEMY, NEVERMORE) at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley, California.

TESTAMENT recently recruited Paul Bostaph (SLAYER, EXODUS, FORBIDDEN, SYSTEMATIC) to play the drums on new CD. The group was previously rehearsing and writing new material with British drummer Nick Barker (CRADLE OF FILTH, DIMMU BORGIR), but Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and international work visa issues have prevented Barker from continuing to be involved in the project.

Bostaph, who was a member of TESTAMENT for a brief period starting around February 2004, had previously played several live dates with the group in 1992 and appeared on the band's 1993 live EP, "Return to the Apocalyptic City". He also toured with TESTAMENT in 2006.
